Your Options: 2009 New Years Eve

12.28.2008

By the lack of NYE postings on here the last few weeks you know already there aren’t anyecatchd ton of concerts to ring in the new year. Even more suprising is the lack of solid parties taking place at many of the cities top clubs and lounges. There’s always your $175 open bar ticket but fuck that; here’s what appears to be the normal priced parties with good DJs and bands playing on 12.31.08:

  • The Rub @ Southpaw: Like every other party post Y2K, Cosmo Baker, Ayres & Eleven will takeover SP to celebrate. Joining them this year will be special guests Certified Bananas. Tickets are $40 which includes some grub and a champagne toast at midnight. Doors open at 9:00 PM…you know how it gets for their regular Saturday monthly party so be sure to get their early.
  • loftn09Kenny Loft’n NYE Loft Party: Kenny Loft’n is back for his 5th Annual New Years party and is the man with the best party going on this year. He teams up with End of the Weak and Bambu Papers for another crazy west side loft party with music from DJ Treats, Melo X, and DJ Fish spinning classics, soul, and hip-hop. There’s an open bar from 10:00 - 2:00 with beer, vodka, crunk juice and a champagne toast but this one takes the prize cause it’s BYOB…furthermore, they’ll provide with free cups, ice, and mixers as well incase you can only fit a few handles in your North Face. Admission is $40 in advance with an RSVP to kenny.loftin@gmail.com or $50 at the door.
  • Rude Year’s Eve @ Glasslands Gallery: Rude presents it’s kickoff party on NYE with the Fool’s Gold head honcho Nick Catchdubs. Tickets are $25 and includes free Colt 45, a $2.99 savings!
  • Roots New Year’s Eve @ Cielo: Louie Vega will be back in NYC for NYE for the first time in more than a decade when he DJs at Cielo. Kevin Hedge joins Vega to share spinning duties. Limited $50 tickets are still available.
  • Prince Paul @ The Delancey: The Prince hosts his annual NYE party at The Delancey. Good music guaranteed and a cheap ticket at $25. Buy drinks at the bar and enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a champagne toast at midnight.
  • NYE Late Night Blowout @ Le Poisson Rouge: Pregame and get shitfaced at your place with Dick Clark, then head over after the ball drops for after hours at LPR. Matthew Dear, Drop the Lime, Michna, & Mike Servito are all on the bill with a late-night party starting at 2:00 AM going til 8:00 AM. Don’t worry, they’ll be serving some free breakfast. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.
  • studiob09The Blowout @ Studio B: I’ve been hearing that Studio B got shut down again? Looks like they are all rumors because they are hosting a huge party this year with a nice mix of live performances and DJs. Grandmaster Mele Mel of The Furios Five will be performing ‘White Lines’ and ‘The Message,’ along with Mickey Factz and Ninja Sonik. The bill also features a long list of DJs: U.K.’s Sinden, Fool’s Gold’s Jokers of the Scene, Scott Henry, Reid Speed, Trouble & Bass, and Cowboy Mark. Tickets are $20 and unlike most of these parties, it’s 19+ so those 21 and under have a solid option here.
  • GBH’s NYE Parties @ Various Clubs: GBH will be throwing a few different parties at their regular spots throughout Manhattan. Even though I can’t find confirmation on who is DJing these you know they won’t let you down and all of the spots they are working with are fun. Tickets for their parties at The Cabanas at The Maritime Hotel or Aspecial Social Club at Stay Hotel are $30 and Caffe Bar and The Darkroom are even less at $25. Tickets for all of GBH’s NYE events available here.
  • Chuck Berry: New Year’s Rockin’ Eve @ B.B. King Blues Club: The Godfather of Soul had made the B.B. King’s stage his home on NYE but with his passing two years ago they have replaced him with rock n’ roll’s godfather, Chuck Berry. Tickets range from $100-$160 depending on if you want to sit or stand but it’s worth it to see a true legend.
