Thievery Corporation @ Central Park Summerstage
4.27.2008Thievery Corporation will make a rare appearance in New York this summer
when they play an outdoor show part of the Central Park Summerstage series on 06.26.08. Joining them will be Seu Jorge with special guests Bebel Gilberto & Federico Aubele. Thievery’s last New York show was more than a year ago at Roseland and sold out almost instantly. The reviews of the show were incredible and I really regretted missing out. This isn’t one of the City Park’s free concerts so you will be forking up $60 for a ticket like most of the Summerstage shows. Tickets available here and on-sale now.

I was very disappointed by their performance. To begin with, they only played for about 40 minutes, although doors were opened at 5pm and closed at 10pm. Whoever was opening them, was really very uneventful and outright boring. When Thievery started to play - the first 20 minutes were pretty good and, as far as band playing is concerned, they were superb throughout the performance. However, the last 20 minutes were full of the band members yelling “New York”, “Central Park”, “Put your hand up”, etc….. They were yelling it non-stop and it really distracted from the music. All in all, I’m very disappointed - 40 minutes of so-so performance for $60.
hahaha. dope review!!
I think there was something wrong with the sound system. The concert sounded very subdued lacking much needed energy. But they seemed to be having so much fun on stage, which made it seem a wee bit comical from the bleechers.
Stage management was bloody awful. It took them almost 45 mins to switch between acts.
I, too have seen Thievery with the full band a few times in the past, and the Central Park performance was disappointing. The singers and the live band were louder than the DJs, and with the exception of ‘38-45′ the rest of the songs lacked in quality and most of the background sounds were almost inaudible. No ‘Richest Man in Babylon’? No encore?? What were they thinking??
