Final Show feat. Galt MacDermot With The New Pulse Jazz Band

1.27.2008

For a while now I’ve been posting about Galt MacDermot and the musical genius and master he is.  June was when I first mentioned his performance at the West Bank Cafe, which ultimately turned out to become a fairly long residency.  The Tony and Grammy award winning musician will play his final show at the West Bank Cafe tomorrow (01.28.08) with an incredible ensemble joining him.  Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, one of the must influential and tightest drummers of all time will be holding down the New Pulse Jazz Band with the help of vocalists Suzanne Griffin, Catrice Joseph Hart, and Melanie May Po.  Completing the band will be James Brown’s and B.B. King’s long time bassist Wilbur “Bad” Bascomb, John Frosk on trumpet and Vince MacDermot on trombone.  Tickets are $20 along with a $15 food/drink minimum at tables, a small price to pay to catch these legends in a very intimate venue.  This wraps up a big year for Mr. MacDermot who just this summer celebrated the 40 year anniversary of Hair.
