Estelle made her New York debut last year for a Hot 97 showcase which was advertised as the album release party for Shine.  Two months later the album still isn’t out which means you get to do it all over again.  Estelle will be returning on 02.21.08 for a performance at Joe’s Pub (not to be confused with fellow Brit vocalist Adele who plays there a few weeks later).  The London singer and rapper has been getting more attention since her last show, largely due to her new single ‘American Boy’ featuring Kanye West.  According to the show listing info on the Joe’s Pub website Shine will really be released later this month.  Tickets are $15; show starts at 11:30 PM.

I’ve had somewhat mixed feelings on Estelle’s music thus far.  ‘American Boy’ is a nice example of what she is capable of but the tracks I heard streaming on her myspace relied too heavily on Curtis Mayfield and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins samples, ultimately drawing a lot of attention away from her vocals.
