Daptone Records Close Out the Year & 2010 Plans

12.19.2009

2009 was an eventful year for Daptone Records to say the least.  It started off with a rough patch in February when the label’s Bushwick based studio was robbed affecting some of their major upcoming recording projects (they were reported to be daptonelogoworking with Rod Steward later that week).  May marked the release of the first full length album from Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens.  Most recently, DJ Frank Gosnner helped the label release the rare Pax Nicholas 1973 album which became an almost obscure recording until being reissued in September.  After another hard year of touring all over the globe, Daptone wraps up the year with winter shows back at home.

Antibalas started a Thursday residency at Knitting Factory Brooklyn this month with their final show of the month on New Years’ Eve.  Tickets are $25 for the 12.31.09 show; 18+.  The Budos Band return to Southpaw on 01.16.10 with advance tickets for just $12.  Finally Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens who have spent most of the month overseas in France, Spain, and Belgium head back to New York and get back to business as usual.  They continue their weekly Friday night residency at Fat Cat in Manhattan along with a show at Joe’s Pub on 01.11.10.
