You can call it the Amy Winehouse effect if you want, but with all her recent sucess we are going to start seeing a whole lot more of similar artists.  Adele is already selling out shows here without distribution in America and this week’s number one single in the U.K. belongs to Duffy, next up to bat on the whitegirl soul circuit.  So what’s the deal with Duffy?  Besides a name that made me a bit reluctant to even give her a listen in the first place the Welsh singer sounds like Dusty Springfield and looks like Amy Smart.  Her debut album Rockferry comes out next month on Polydor and probably won’t have U.S. distribution either.  The first single ‘Mercy’ is definitely going for that Motown sound but the other tracks I’ve heard are on the slower melodic side.  Duffy comes to New York City on 03.17.08 for a show at Hiro Ballroom, tickets are $18.  Let the inevitable Amy vs. Lily vs. Adele vs. Duffy comparisons begin…
