Raphael Saadiq @ Southstreet Seaport 08.29.08

On Friday 08.29.08 Time Out New York announced that Raphael Saadiq would be the special suprise guest for the Summer Music Sayonara show at Southstreet Seaport.  With other bands already scheduled to play, Saadiq was the main catch for most, as many were locked out of his sold-out show at Highline Ballroom two nights before.

Saadiq performed an incredible show with a full band and backup singers that ran more than an hour, much more than most expected for a free show at 7:00 on a gray-skyed Friday.  Those in the know who made it over were treated to many cuts from his new album The Way I See It due out later this month on Columbia Records.  The hype has already been building for the record which has been getting tons of attention for the sound he is bringing back.  Live he is just as powerful, his sound and image now in full doo-wop effect.  Besides debuting some of his new material live for the crowd he worked his way through a few timeless classics from Lucy Pearl to triple T.  More pictures inside…

‘instant vintage’ is near classic too (collabos w/ angie stone + d’angelo, to name a few). completely different sound. ‘ray ray’ is aiight too. try and cop a copy of the ‘live at the house of blues’ lps. although this new concoction should be worth checkin out.
