Drake at S.O.B.’s 05.26.09
5.28.2009
With a last minute invite to Hot 97’s ‘Who’s Next’ showcase I rolled through camera-less so sorry about the weak phone photos. After catching his live show for the first time there’s no question that Drake is a superstar in the making. His live show is impressive, singing and rhyming just as well live as does on record with a great stage presence that mixed an almost cocky confidence with a genuine appreciation for the fans out to see him. Of course, that’s the type of stage presence you earn when a sold out house is packed with mostly women, everyone singing the words to cuts from your mixtapes, and an endless line in SoHo with people trying to get in the door to see your show.
Drake delivered strong on everything, performing ‘Unstoppable,’ ‘Successful, straight up killing it on ‘November 18th’ and ‘Uptown’ which featured a cameo from Bun B who spit his verses on stage with Drizzy. Closing out the night was the expected ‘Best I Ever Had’ and ‘Every Girl.’ As with any emerging hiphop artist nowadays there will always be the critics skeptical of Drake and what he’ll be offering to the scene. After last night though it’s safe to say Drake is worthy of the hype and success that will surely be coming within the next few months.

Nice review. New York Times was there also and said the same thing about him being cocky.
