Budos Band at S.O.B.’s 03.27.08
3.29.2008
Staten Island had a full on invasion of Manhattan at S.O.B.’s Thursday night as Daptone Records’ Budos Band tore down the house with two raging sets.
The night kicked off with fam members The Honey Dripper and Young Chris holding it down superfly style, spinning classic soul 45’s to set the tone for the night. (One can only admire a record crate that still holds The Charmels ‘As Long As I’ve Got You’ 45.)
Budos Band took the stage at 10:00 and the energy didn’t die down until the end. Their two sets were structured very simply with the first one containg older material and the second one focusing on tracks from last year’s sophomore album Budos Band II. As I’ve long been saying, every Budos song has that vibe where it starts off slow, builds up more and more and by the end you are ready to hijack a car and start taking the law into your own hands. Watching a dozen musicians of such a high caliber come together to create their rich and unique sound is just as pleasing on the eyes as it is on the ears.
Budos Band return for another NYC show on 05.17.08 when they play the Rocks Off Boat Cruise

wish i coulda been there..
