OB4CL2 and Raekwon, Naughty By Nature & More…

5.26.2009

I feel like I post about a couple of times every year but now it seems real this time.  Only Built for Cuban Linx II was originally announced way back in 2005 when it ob4cl2would have been the ten year anniversary of the classic Raekwon release.  With issue after issue with label support the record continued to be pushed back every year but it has been officially confirmed that it will finally drop this summer via EMI.

Now that the album is set for release you can be sure to catch some of Chef’s new material when he performs at B.B. King Blues Club on 06.17.09.  Raekwon will be joined by other 90’s legends including Naughty By Nature, MC Lyte, Nice & Smooth, and other special guests for a night of hiphop.  Tickets go on-sale today at 10:00 AM.

You left out a lot of big names from that show at BB Kings next month. It’s
Naughty by Nature, Nice & Smooth, Black Moon, Smif-N-Wesson, MC Lyte, Raekwon, Das Efx, Lord Finesse, and Show & AG.

That’s an insane lineup. Funkmaster Flex is the host and I’m pretty sure he’s the one putting together and promoting this whole “Hip Hop Legends” concert series.

I don’t know what they’re thinking though to have this show on a Wednesday night at 11. You know it’s gonna be an older crowd and a lot of us have to work the next morning. They should change it to a weekend or at least make the start time earlier.

The last “Hip Hop Legends” show on the morning of Memorial Day was supposed to start at midnight but didn’t start until almost 2 and didn’t end until after 4am. They ended up cutting half of EPMD’s set and cutting off the sound during Meth and Red’s set. Plus I think they oversold the last show because it was packed like crazy and supposedly the fire marshall almost shut it down.

It’s a crazy lineup but they need to fix a lot of things to make it go smoother. I want to see this “Hip Hop Legends” thing be a success and keep it going because the lineups are crazy but if they don’t get it together and also pick a better venue and/or better days and times for these shows it’s not gonna last long.
